Aston Villa’s FA Youth Cup winner captain Kaine Kesler has signed a new five-year contract until 2026.
The 18-year-old was part of Dean Smith’s first team 12 months ago for the 1-1 draw at Everton before making his FA Cup debut against Liverpool in January.
The right-back, who has been part of four Premier League teams in total, has had a strong Under-23 and Under-18 season at Bodymoor Heath and has scored four goals in his 16 Premier appearances League 2.
Kesler also skipped Villa for their FA Youth Cup victory over Liverpool at Villa Park in May and remains firmly in Smith’s thoughts for the season ahead.
Villa, meanwhile, today announced new deals for six other academy stars with center-back Mungo Bridge, goalkeepers Akos Onodi and Viljami Sinisalo, defender Myles Sohna and forwards DJ Sturridge and Tyreik Wright. all signed new agreements at the club.
Like Kesler, the 20-year-old Bridge defender was also in the first-team squad and started alongside Ezri Konsa in friendlies against Arsenal and Leicester City last season.
Elsewhere, goalkeepers Onodi and Sinisalo remain highly regarded by Villa chief goaltender Neil Cutler, with the pair set to be part of the first team’s pre-season schedule.
Center-back Sohna, forward Sturridge and left-right winger Wright, all 19, also signed new contracts, with the latter returning from a decent loan to Walsall last season.
Villa’s seven Under-23s who signed new deals are expected to be part of the first squad in the first few weeks of summer with loan deals, managed by Mile Jedinak, in preparation for the new season.
