Aston Villa’s loan army is not having the best times this season.
Louie Barry has barely a match at Ipswich and Wesley Moraes has only made one league match at Club Brugge. However, on Tuesday evening, another Villa tenant had a rather embarrassing afternoon.
Indeed, Conor Hourihane started for Sheffield United against Millwall at Bramall Lane on Tuesday, but it was certainly a game for the Irishman to forget.
To put it bluntly, Hourihane had a nightmare. He couldn’t get involved in the game at all, having just 16 hits the ball, he did not make a single tackle or fire a single shot, while he 20 percent of his passes were irrelevant.
Hourihane played so poorly that Slavisa Jokanovic had seen enough after just over half an hour, Hourihane was substituted after 37 minutes, and the change was purely tactical with the midfielder seemingly free of any type of injury.
It’s a shame to see Hourihane struggling like that. The midfielder is undoubtedly an incredibly talented player, but for some reason or another he just couldn’t get into the nitty-gritty against Millwall.
It will be interesting to see where Hourihane goes from here. Sheffield United have plenty of options in midfield with Oliver Norwood on the bench and Sander Berge on the verge of returning from injury.
To make matters worse, this was Hourihane’s first start for the Blades, and if he doesn’t reinforce his ideas, he won’t have many more chances under Jokanovic.
One thing is for sure, he can’t afford a lot more performances like the one he put on Tuesday night.
