Aston Villa are keen to sign a permanent contract with Newcastle United target Axel Tuanzebe this summer, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The 23-year-old defender struggled to get any playing time at Manchester United last season despite his impression in a Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain.
He has a year left on the contract, but he actually has two years left, with Manchester United having the option of extending the deal.
Newcastle are keen to sign him on loan but it has been claimed that the Magpies are struggling to agree on loan fees with Manchester United, who want £ 5million to cover the entire period.
But Newcastle are set to face stiff competition from Aston Villa, who want to bring Tuanzebe back to Villa Park.
The defender had a successful loan spell at Villa in the 2018/19 season when he helped them get promoted.
Aston Villa love the center-back again and would rather sign him on a permanent contract.
It remains to be seen whether Manchester United would prefer to lend him rather than cut the cord with Tuanzebe for good.
If the Red Devils go for a permanent sale, it is unclear whether Newcastle can face Aston Villa for Tuanzebe.
The defender wants regular football and will likely look for guarantees on playing time before agreeing on a shot.
