Cocoa Village shooting results in one injured being airlifted

CACAO – A person was shot and injured early Saturday morning in Cocoa Village, Cocoa Police said.

The incident was reported after midnight in the Stone Street and Brevard Avenue area near Myrt Tharpe Square, according to Brevard County spokesman Don Walker.

The victim, who was not identified by name, gender or age, was airlifted with non-life-threatening injuries to an area hospital, according to Walker and Lt. Mike Dellatorre of cocoa font.

A memorial for local friends and business owners honoring Jimmy Mayfield was held the afternoon of February 28 at Myrt Tharpe Square in Cocoa Village.

It was not immediately known whether a suspect was in custody, Dellatorre said. More details about the incident were not available late Saturday morning. Florida Today has contacted the Cocoa Police Department for more information.
