Here we ask designers to take a selfie and give us a glimpse into their lives.
Hometown: Raleigh, North Carolina.
Studio location: Raleigh, North Carolina.
Describe what you make: I do stone carvings composed of several pieces that fit together, representing my obsession with stone cutting.
The most important thing you’ve designed so far: Honestly, not one thing in particular. I think this must be the method I developed to keep me excited to get work done.
Describe the problem your work solves: My anxiety.
Describe the project you are currently working on: I am trying to develop a small series of lamps/lighting.
A new or upcoming project we should know about: I’m about to start a show with Lovehouse in New York for the summer of 2022.
What you absolutely must have in your studio: I work outside 99% of the time, so a nice warm sun, a good broom and some podcasts. If it’s cold, I like to light a fire.
What you do when you’re not working: I usually eat, ride my bike, drink beers or look for stone.
Sources of creative desire: Goldsworthy, Noguchi, Fonseca, Moore and many artists from North Carolina.
The distraction you want to eliminate: I spend a lot of time on YouTube rotting my brain.
Concrete or marble? Granite all over.
High-rise building or townhouse? I like a good shed.
Remember or forget? Remember.
Aliens or ghosts? No more.
Dark or light? Light.
