Journalist says Aston Villa player will definitely go to World Cup

A number of Aston Villa players will already have their eye on November’s World Cup.

Speaking to Off The Ball, Tim Vickery spoke about the chances of Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho.

Coutinho hasn’t been at his best this season, playing in six league games and not registering a goal or an assist.

The Brazilian hasn’t played 90 minutes once this season, alternating between playing on the left wing and as a ten.

Jamie Carragher has warned that if Coutinho’s form doesn’t improve he risks wasting Villa’s resources.

Despite all this, Coutinho will almost certainly go to the World Cup in Qatar.

He has been left out of Tite’s squad for Brazil’s upcoming friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia.

However, the 30-year-old is an ‘absolute favourite’ for the Brazil coach and Vickery is convinced Coutinho will be on the plane.

Coutinho is still going to the World Cup

Although he is not part of Tite’s current squad, there are not many natural replacements for Coutinho in the cohort he is called up to.

West Ham’s new signing Lucas Paqueta can play as an attacking playmaker but tends to sit a bit deeper for Brazil.

Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes could also fill that role, but he’s more of a shuttle player than someone who will unblock defences.

For this reason, Coutinho is still likely to go to the World Cup.

However, this omission will serve as a warning to Villa’s No.23.

“Philippe Coutinho is an absolute favorite for Brazilian coach Tite.” Vickery said.

“Who brought him back when he was really still in the doldrums at Barcelona moving to Aston Villa.

“And now he’s been kicked out of the team.

“Does that mean he won’t go to the World Cup? I doubt.

“I should think it’s a bit of dynamite being placed, just to try and pull him out of a disappointing start to the season.”
