Newcastle ‘prepare offer’ for Aston Villa flop as Eddie Howe readies for January transfer spree

Newcastle United are reportedly preparing and offering ex-Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Vereout.

Toon boss Eddie Howe will be heavily supported in the January transfer window to increase the club’s chances of survival this season and according to reports in Italy, France international Veretout is interesting.

FootMercato claim Newcastle could take a step for Veretout in the January transfer window, with their new mega-rich owners ready to kick off their spending spree.

The report adds that Saudi Newcastle owners are preparing a “window of madness” in Newcastle and Veretout is the latest player targeted.

The Roma star has been a regular at Jose Mourinho having started 18 Serie A games so far this season, having only missed one game through suspension.

Veretout has Premier League experience, having spent a few years at Villa Park, but his stay at the club was short-lived after his relegation to the league.

He made 25 appearances in a miserable 2015/16 season for Villa after collecting just 17 league points at the end of May.

Veretout then joined Saint-Etienne on loan, before leaving Villa definitively in 2017 for Fiorentina.

After impressing in Florence he is on the move again, joining Roma on loan ahead of the 2019/20 campaign to start with a € 18million purchase obligation.

He is currently in his third season at Rome but could now return to the Premier League to be part of an exciting new chapter at Newcastle.
